Aesthetic FAQs
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as “collagen induction therapy”, involves the use of very fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, prompting your body’s natural healing cascade. These micro-channels promote production of natural growth factors which then stimulate collagen and elastin production for tissue regeneration. There are a wide variety of microneedling devices used on the market which can produce different results. This is why we use a specific FDA-cleared Class II medical device for the procedure.

What can I expect?
Most patients notice an immediate tightening and "glow" to their skin after the procedure. You may begin to notice the results of your treatment immediately; however, it may take up to a 3-6 months for full effect. Patients tend to notice continued skin improvement for months following their last treatment as skin integrity continues to improve. This is why the best results come from maintaining your microneedling treatments as recommended by the doctor. Microneedling effects are gradual as your collagen takes time to rebuild and the surrounding cells continue working for ultimate regeneration. For best results, follow up treatments are usually repeated in 4-6 weeks depending on your goals. The initial treatment frequency is crucial to properly maintain and build a collagen matrix. Following that, maintenance treatments are scheduled further apart.
How many treatments do I need?
Upon beginning treatment, 3-4 sessions are generally recommended and are initially spaced out in 4-6 week intervals. Maintenance sessions are scheduled further apart as your skin condition improves. For more severe skin concerns such as acne scars and advanced aging (deep wrinkles, sagging, etc), 6-8 sessions, spaced one month apart, may be recommended. Severity and treatment frequency will be determined during your consultation with the doctor.

How long do procedures take?
The procedure typically takes around 60 minutes.
What is the downtime?
There is virtually minimal to zero downtime. Most people only notice a slight redness or a mild "sunburn-like" hue to the skin. On average, the skin is slightly red for 2-3 days but the majority of people report it not being noticeable the day after. Total healing time depends on each individual and the condition of their skin. You will be instructed with post-treatment care instructions by the doctor. Typically, you may resume your normal skin care routine (including applying make-up) & daily activities 2-3 days after the procedure.
Does the procedure hurt?
A professionally compounded numbing cream will be applied before the procedure to provide ultimate comfort for our patients. Most patients have described the feeling of microneedling like mild "sandpaper" against the skin. The doctor will also adjust the depth of penetration when using the microneedling pen throughout the procedure depending on your specific skin type and condition. The procedure is well tolerated by most patients.
What do I need to do before booking?
Microneedling is generally safe for all skin types; however, there are specific precautions & contraindications. Before your procedure, the doctor will consult with you about your specific aesthetic goals, assess target treatment areas, and confirm that you are a good candidate for the procedure. This consultation is included in your booking for all patients.
